Death, at a Snail's Pace
Death, at a Snail's Pace
Death comes for us all, just sometimes, it's slow. And slimy.
A few of these snails - I call them Wounded Warriors - got little cracks in the kiln firing. The cracks aren't structural, they're not going to damage the function of the snail at all. They're just visually distressing. Or beautiful, since they're 'bandaged' in gold! They are marked down to reflect their imperfectness... although they want a home just as much as the 'perfect' ones. And really, what is perfect? I mean, as I'm writing this, my three legged dog is laying next to me on the couch, and I think she's perfect, so....

A Note on Care
These are stoneware and should be fine to be placed outside in a garden setting. They can be cleaned with anything from hot soapy water to a damp towel (or just hose them off, they'd probably love that!). However, the first year, I would keep an eye on the "Wounded Warriors" if you got one of those, and make sure that the crack doesn't get bigger if there are sudden, extreme temperature changes.
About HaldeCraft
HaldeCraft began with ceramics, soap, and yarn. I've been making ceramics since I was four years old, learning at the feet of my grandmother who had a home studio in the 50s and 60s. Currently I make slip-cast, hand-built, or wheel-thrown pieces (or a combination of all three) and then are painted and glazed and put through multiple kiln firings before being put out into the world. The yarn started life in 2007 in a small yarn store in Gainesville, Florida (Hanks Yarn and Fiber) and was then called "Perhaps Today is a Good Day to Dye". It has continued online as HaldeCraft HandDyed since 2011, and is hand-dyed and lovingly re-skeined in a small home studio by someone who loves the fiber arts just as much as you do. Making soap was a hobby that I had for years, and I started making soap for the yarn store, and continued when starting HaldeCraft. Lately I've picked up laser engraving, taking my craft to a whole new level. My pieces are unique, hand painted, and proudly made in my own home studio with confidence, mindfulness, and joy. Everything at HaldeCraft is created by hand, by me, in order to joyfully connect with you!
